Prepare for Medical School

Have you submitted your application to a UK medical school, or are you thinking of applying? Do you want to give yourself the best possible chance of success?

Our Medicine Conference 2020 is designed for ambitious students aged 15-18 with a genuine interest in the world of medicine and healthcare. Over one day of interactive online workshops and seminars, you’ll gain an invaluable insight into the field, and you’ll finish the day inspired and prepared to impress in your medical school interviews and applications.

You’ll hear from professors, doctors, and medicine admissions experts throughout the day, and have the opportunity to ask them questions on our interactive platform. You’ll also have the option to attend active, hands-on sessions, such as learning the art of suturing, acting as a consultant for a new telehealth app, or taking a patient’s medical history.

You’ll hear from our keynote speaker, Professor Harald Schmidt, medical doctor, pharmacist and Professor of Pharmacology & Personalised Medicine, about how the field of Medicine will change in the next five to ten years – so that you can be prepared to take your place on the cutting edge.

If you’ve already submitted your application to medical school, you’ll leave MedCon 2020 with the knowledge and the confidence to impress at interview and in the BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT – we’ll also have an optional dedicated BMAT preparation seminar for you).

If you’re preparing to submit your application next year or beyond, don’t miss out on the opportunity to prove your passion for the field – a must for any personal statement!

All attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance which can be used for future work experience or course applications.

Date: Saturday, 24th October 2020

Parent Seminar: 6pm BST – Online

I have learned a lot about Medicine, and have, without a doubt, developed many new skills. I have also surprised myself in what I have achieved with the confidence that this course and my tutor have helped me build. Everything I learned was very interesting and really made me realise that Medicine was the course for me.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MedCon 2020 suitable for me if I've already submitted my UCAS application?

Yes, if you’ve already submitted your UCAS application for Medicine and related subjects, the conference will give you the tools and insights you need to impress in your interviews. You’ll be able to draw on all you’ve learnt during the conference to prove your genuine interest in Medicine to your interviewers, and to show that you’ve gone above and beyond your school curriculum – which is something all admissions tutors are looking for. We also have a dedicated BMAT (BioMedical Admissions Test) preparation session for those of you who will be sitting the test in November.

Is MedCon 2020 suitable for me if I haven't yet applied to medical school?

Yes, if you have a genuine interest in Medicine and in applying to medical school, MedCon 2020 will help you ensure that Medicine is the right course for you, provide you with essential evidence of your interest in the field for your personal statement, and equip you to submit a compelling application when the time comes. Not to mention that it’s set to be a fascinating day!

Where can I see the full programme for the day?

The full programme for the day is available here.

Is MedCon 2020 suitable for international students?

Absolutely! We’re pleased to welcome students from dozens of countries to our events every year, and would be thrilled to have you. Do bear in mind, however, that the conference is designed for students applying to UK medical schools – if you’re not sure whether it will be relevant for you, please do get in touch.

Do I need any special software or equipment in order to join MedCon 2020? Which platform do you use?

No, you don’t need to download or buy any software in order to attend MedCon 2020. After you buy your ticket, we’ll send you all the information you’ll need in order to join us on the day on our streaming platform. Our platform is user-friendly, reliable, and best of all, really interactive! This means you can ask all our speakers questions directly, and can even be invited onto our virtual stage to speak to them yourself!

Do I need to have studied with Oxford Scholastica before in order to attend?

No! The conference will assume no background knowledge. The content covered is different than that of our Medicine courses (both in Oxford and online), so whether you’ve joined us before or not, we believe you’ll find it very interesting and valuable!

Can parents join MedCon 2020?

MedCon 2020 is designed with students in mind. However, in the evening we will have a dedicated session to which all parents and guardians of invitees are warmly invited, which will give you an insight into what students have covered during the day, tips about how best to support them through their medical applications and studies, and a Q&A.

Do you have any scholarship/ bursary places?

Limited scholarship places are available for students who study at our partner schools. If you’re a school and would like to become a partner, email us and we’ll be pleased to get you on board!
