The early cloud of the day burned off as we mounted the coach for our first day trip to Windsor and Eton. Our first destination, Windsor, is home to Windsor Castle and the Queen herself for several months of the year. In the shadow of the Castle we watched the changing of guards before entering to explore in depth. Thanks to the sun and setting, Camille was very happy with her ‘Royal’ ice-cream.
After sallying out from the Castle students explored the picturesque town surrounding and made progress with their souvenir shopping. Lampl students Harry, Salvatore and Sanjay were also hosted in a French restaurant by Thomas, who was determined to make them understand cuisine.
With the sun beaming down on us, we made our way to Eton. Our director Jamie is an alumnus of the famous institution. Together with Kit, who was his Dame during his time at Eton, Jamie showed us about the grounds and buildings, passing on titbits and insights from his time there.
After Eton the weary and sun-worn students boarded the coach for our return to Oxford and dinner. Dinner was eaten with some speed as the Euro 2016 semi final loomed. A large group also headed to St George’s to learn the art of Salsa dancing. Finally Tim Tunes brought together the best voices of the summer school to make a choir.
Most students were grateful for their beds after a long day of exploring and sun. Everyone was adapting to the summer school routine and ready to get into another day of classes after a good night’s sleep.
