Wednesday saw an early start for our students as they boarded the coach at 7:30am heading on their journey to Cambridge. What we expected to be a warm and sunny day, (as the entire summer school had been so far) transformed into a slightly chilly morning as we disembarked from the coach around 10am.
Some of the more skeptical among us believed the unfriendly weather was a sign that we should stick to Oxford in future! Nevertheless we continued with our trip and began with our first activity, a guided punt down the river Cam from which the city takes its name! Taking us behind the back of some of Cambridge’s most prestigious college’s such as St John’s, Trinity and King’s college we were given some amazing insight into not only a behind the scenes view of Cambridge’s best sights but also plenty of facts and stories about the history of the colleges.
Once our punted trip had come to an end it was time for lunch and the opportunity for some free time exploring the city! This was much appreciated by our students with some meeting us slightly earlier for a guided tour around Jesus college, with Mario eyeing up how best to sneak onto the famous Jesus horse!
After our tour of Jesus the students were given the opportunity to view another famous Cambridge college, St John’s! Amongst famous alumni there includes various princes, saints and prime ministers! The students particularly enjoyed learning more about the history of the college and the role it played in British history. We then jumped back on the coach to get back to Oxford with another enjoyable day behind us!
