The glitz and glamour of Hollywood draws in millions of cinema goers to watch the latest thrillers, adventure, sci-fi, rom com and blockbuster action movies. However the genre of “education” offers up some great treats too.

During our summer school, we have a specific movie night for our students to relax after a challenging day of study. We’re on the lookout for our movie choice – please let us know if you have any favourites? Here are our 5 favourite “education” category movies.

    • Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – This classic American coming-of-age comedy film follows high school senior Ferris who cuts class and spends the day in downtown Chicago. See a classic video clip from the movie below:

  • Good Will Hunting – The movie that brought Matt Damon and Ben Affleck to the world’s attention, is an Oscar winning drama that shows the journey encountered by an unrecognised Maths genius who works as the college janitor.
  • Election – Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick (ironically now playing a teacher after being the high school truant in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”) star in this film showing the dark comedic side of student government.
  • High School Musical – A modern adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, this fast paced and song packed movie will have you clapping and dancing to all the tunes.
  • Searching for Bobby Fischer – This movie shows the path of a young chess prodigy and how he is pushed by his father and chess teacher to reach his potential – it raises interesting questions on how to handle gifted kids.
