Friday started nice and early with everyone boarding the coach to London. The weather did not cooperate at all and it rained the whole day, adding an edge to each of the activities planned. First up was the Alternative Tour of East London where the students were shown the secret spots in East London that play host to some of the more spectacular street art in England. After a brief respite from the rain, the students again braved the downpour for a truly Victorian experience of Shakespeare’s Richard II at the Globe Theatre. Eight stalwart students earned the admiration of all by preserving in the conditions and watching the play to the final scene. After the Globe, everyone headed off to have impromptu parties in the London eye capsules, enjoying the bird’s view of London for both its relative warmth and selfie opportunities. The damp group then filled up on pizza at the Pizza Express nearby before boarding the coach for their return to Oxford.
