Our Pastoral Care

We're a family-run summer school, so the personal care of our students is the core concern of our co-founders Jamie and Sophie.

A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Right from the start, your point of contact will be Photis, who will be available to support with any questions you have throughout the build up to the summer school, during it and afterwards.

We get heavily oversubscribed each year (to the best of our knowledge we’re the fastest summer school in Oxford to be fully booked), so we’re able to answer your questions honestly and give you impartial advice to make sure we’re the right summer school for you.

If not, we’re happy to recommend other summer schools.

I researched many summer schools before deciding on this one and I loved that I could speak to the course leaders directly rather than to marketing staff of a large company who had never been to the location and had no direct knowledge of course content.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

In the run up to the summer we like to offer all our students (and parents if free) a Skype or phone call. Shannon will say hello, learn more about what you’re looking to get out of your time with us (so we can tailor your experience) and answer any of your questions.

We’re aware that for many of our students this summer will be the first time you’ll be away from home, and we want to make sure you feel comfortable and prepared.

Shannon will be available throughout the run-up to the summer school, and will be able to help with any queries or support with things like booking your airport transfers.

OUR TEAM REALLY CARE

Our students love our staff. We take time to choose the best team members, and many of our staff and tutors return year after year. You can meet our team here.

We like to get to know all our students and give them the most memorable summer of their lives. So our staff are empowered to arrange personalised exciting experiences – for example, arranging a tour of a part of Oxford a student is keen to see.

Sophie, our co-founder, also loves making birthday cakes for anyone lucky enough to have a birthday on the summer school!

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to you and the rest of the staff from camp. Those two weeks of camp were definitely my favorite by far and I couldn’t have wished for a better experience in any way! Thanks again to Sophie for making me such a brilliant cake for my birthday! Hope I get the opportunity to see everyone again in the future.

SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY

We are a fully accredited summer school, having undergone several rigorous inspections by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education.

We have staff on site 24 hours a day and during the day there are always lots of staff members around should students need anything. Students will also be given contact phone numbers for all our staff and we are reachable by email and Facebook for any non-emergency issues.

All our staff are first aid trained and receive child protection training. If parents need to contact their children and cannot get through directly, we also provide 24/7 emergency numbers for several of our senior staff. Our Director is also on call 24 hours a day should parents or students have any urgent issues.

All our staff and tutors undergo strict regulatory and police checks before they join our team, so you can be confident that your child will be well looked after.

MAKING NEW FRIENDS

OSA Olympics

Aside from their academic experiences at the Oxford Scholastica Academy, students also build a global group of new friends. We make a real effort to facilitate this in a positive way to enable students to get the most from the experience.

Our staff are always on the look-out for students to include, and the summer school is organised in a way that allows students to make friends with everyone in their cohort. We have lots of ice breakers and social activities, and there are many opportunities in free-time to cement these friendships.

We have private Facebook groups for our students so they can get to know the people who they will be sharing the summer school with and we also work hard after the course to keep friendships alive. You can read our latest Alumni Magazine here.
