Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

We have put together this page to answer any questions parents and students might have about attending the Oxford Scholastica Academy because of coronavirus.

We appreciate some families are concerned about potentially sending their child to a summer school this summer, but we are happy to say that the 2020 summer school is going ahead. This page contains the latest information, including:

  • The fact that Oxford Scholastica is open for bookings
  • How well the UK is prepared
  • How we’re extending the date that the balance of fees are due in order to give you additional reassurance
  • How you can change your booking
  • Information about Oxford Scholastica Online, our virtual summer school option

One of the reasons students choose to come to Oxford is that the city is famous for its academia and research. Oxford is a centre for medical research, led by pioneering medical companies and university researchers. For example, Oxford played a vital role in the development of penicillin in the 1940s.

Oxford researchers are currently at the forefront of research into coronavirus, including helping to develop a coronavirus vaccine. Many students who attend the Oxford Scholastica Academy are inspired to work in fields of research to help push our understanding of medicine, science and innovation further. It’s through this work that countries and citizens are better protected against illness than ever before.

Is the Oxford Scholastica Academy open?

Yes – we are still receiving bookings for this summer and are looking forward to welcoming students for our biggest summer school yet.

Can I take an online course instead?

Yes, you can – we have recently launched our virtual summer school, Oxford Scholastica Online, which you can read more about here.

How well protected is the UK?

In October 2019 the UK was ranked second in the world (out of 195 countries) for preparedness for a global health security incident by the “Global Health Security (GHS) Index”, and was ranked 1st for “rapid response to and mitigation of the spread of an epidemic”.

Our students’ welfare is incredibly important to us, and our policies and procedures have been accredited by the British Accreditation Council, so when you book with us you can feel confident your child will have the highest level of care and support. Our students have access to medical care and support through our experienced Matrons, and the UK’s health system, including the National Health Service, is world-famous.

Can I change my booking?

Yes – as long as you let us know before 31st May 2020, you can change your booking to another date this summer. So, for example, if you are booked on our 5th July 2020 session you are welcome to change this to the 2nd August 2020 session. You are also welcome to change course – so, for example, you could change from Engineering to Computer Science.

If you would like to move your booking to summer 2021, you are also welcome to do this if you let us know before 31st May 2020.

There will be no charge to move or change your booking.

Can I cancel my booking?

As per our terms and conditions, the deposit for any cancellations made within 14 days of booking is fully refundable, and is not refundable after 14 days of booking.

If you would prefer not to attend this summer, you are welcome to move your 2020 booking to summer 2021 at no charge as long as you let us know before the 31st May 2020.

When are the fees due?
A 795 GBP deposit is due to secure your place. While the deadline for paying the balance is usually 31st March, we have extended the balance payment date to 31st May 2020 to give extra reassurance to families.
What happens if the summer school is cancelled?

We are looking forward to running our biggest summer school yet this summer. However, if the summer school is unable to run because of circumstances out of our control, we will move your booking to summer 2021. Our fees increase each year, but you will benefit from the 2020 rate.

Will I share a bedroom?
Unlike many summer schools, all of our students will receive a single room as a default, unless they request to share a room with a friend. Our buildings only hold a small number of students and are separated from the rest of the campus.
