Meet our senior team
Jamie Dear BA Hons (Oxon), Founder
Jamie moved to Oxford in 1992. After studying at Oxford University he worked in the non-profit education sector, founding a social enterprise which has raised £1/2m for charity. He is passionate about the transformative impact of inspiring teachers, and has run summer schools for the past five years.
Dr Sophie Dear BA BM BCh (Oxon), Founder
Sophie is a trained doctor with a passion for teaching. She oversees the running of the summer school with her husband Jamie. Sophie studied Medicine at Oxford, and has won awards for her teaching of Oxford University medical students. She is also a keen pianist, gardener and cook!
Photis Loizou, Deputy Director
Photis is our primary point of contact for families before and during the summer school. Originally from Cyprus, he studied Ancient History and Classics in the UK, where he specialised in researching the concept of philotimia (honour). In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, reading and cooking inordinately big meals!
Louise Hudson, Deputy Director
Louise leads the operational side of Oxford Scholastica. She has had five years’ experience working in the conference and events industry. An Oxford local, Louise was born and grew up in a nearby village before going on to read Equine Studies at university in Wales. She enjoys going to the gym and hiking with her dog.
Dan Morris, Deputy Director
Dan heads up the marketing function at Oxford Scholastica. Harbouring ambitions of becoming the next Indiana Jones, he studied
Archaeological Sciences in Bradford before realising that data was his preference. He has two children so spends most of his spare time giving piggy back rides or taxiing the family to lots of clubs and parties.
Lavinia Abell, Programme & Development Manager
Lavinia studied Classics at Jesus College, Cambridge. She loves working in ‘the Other Place’ now, even though she feels it’s a bit of a betrayal given the rivalry between Oxford and Cambridge! Outside of work, she loves travelling, playing netball, swimming and daydreaming in coffee shops.
Susanna O'Brien, Education & Outreach Manager
Having graduated in Psychology from Oxford, Susanna studied for an MPhil in Education at Cambridge, though her loyalties still lie here (especially in the Boat Race!). During her time in Oxford she competed for Teddy Hall in Netball, Dancesport and even Croquet cuppers and was Captain of Coxes for her college boat club.
Rebecca Ellis, Operations Manager
Originally from the North West of England, Rebecca started her career in the Education sector almost ten years ago and has worked in an operational role for almost two years. She has a passion for travel, culture, and languages and has travelled to more than fifty countries! Rebecca enjoys organising, morning runs, yoga, and cooking.
Izzy Mohammed, Marketing & Community Executive
Originally from Sweden, Izzy studied Publishing and English Language and Communication in the UK. She dabbled in the publishing industry and teaching sector before joining the Oxford Scholastica Academy team. In her spare time, Izzy can be found reading or writing about herself in the third person.
Pascha Francisco, Matron
Pascha used to be a Matron at St Edward’s boarding school in Oxford, where she looked after hundreds of 13-18 year olds – so there isn’t much she doesn’t know about teenagers! Her claim to fame is that her husband used to play football for Santos in Sao Paulo, where Pele played.
Tessa de Cordova, Matron
Tessa has worked in lots of schools around the world, including Harrow Hong Kong and Marlborough College Malaysia, as well as at leading UK boarding schools such as Sunningdale, Summer Fields, The Dragon and Downe House, where she was a Housemistress. Tessa loves James Bond and ice cream.
